Mike nodded his head. He was still sure she was pulling something on him but, as usual, he was trapped into going along with it.
"But I'll be nice," Lauren said. "Drink another class of soda first."
"I'm not thirsty. I have to pee already."
"You can do that after you're in your costume. Come on, I bought those two-liters just for you."
Mike couldn't help himself. His greed for sugar let him drink two more glasses of soda, without ice.
"Close your eyes," Lauren said when he finished.
He let her put the mask over his eyes, pulling it tight behind him. He couldn't see anything even if he'd kept his eyes open. It certainly wasn't the kind of mask a guy ought to be wearing on Halloween.
"First, the socks," Lauren said. "Hold on to my shoulders so you don't fall down while I lift up your feet."
Socks were socks, weren't they? They were very soft, though. And had some kind of trimming around the top edge.
Then Lauren brushed his hair straight back. It was getting kind of long, and she combed it to emphasize its length, hanging down past his neck.
"OK, here's the undergarment that goes with the costume," Lauren said.
She slid the underpants up his legs. They did feel very strange, made of some ultra smooth and soft material. They were cut almost as short as racing swim trunks, so Mike guessed it was some kind of superhero costume.
But instead of putting him in some kind of colored tights and a close-fitting shirt and a cape, Lauren made him raise up his hands.
Then she pulled some type of long, almost dress-like cloth over his head. Some kind of robe like an evil wizard? Or one of those weird costumes guys wore in historical kung fu movies?
But then Lauren was pushing his hands through arm holes with puffed sleeves. And the material was light and fluffy, not like an evil wizard or warrior would wear. Then she buttoned it up in the back.
"Now it's time for the makeup," Lauren said.
"Makeup? Wait a minute --"
"Don't be such a baby. It's part of the costume. You've worn makeup before for Halloween. Remember last year when your mother made your face green?"
"So what are you going to do to my face?"
"It's a surprise, remember. Sit down here."
She moved his face around up and down, from side to side. He felt various brushes and creams apply something to the skin of his face. He wanted to object when he felt something greasy go over his lips, but then remembered that Mother had made them bright purple last year, to go along with his green skin.
