"But the things in my dreams. You...I...we..."
"We what?"
"You were there, you know what we did!"
"Actually, I was busy pouring through your memories. Whatever you thought was me was a manifestation your mind constructed to make sense of what was going on in other parts of the brain so I have no idea what you experienced." That, of course, was a complete lie, but she wanted to hear her patient speak the words.
"We...oh god this is so humiliating. We had sex. I don't know why I did it because I'm straight, but we did and I remember it being the best sex of my life. It felt so real."
"I'm flattered, but I can assure you we've never been intimate. Though, full disclosure, I'm not against the idea of turning dreams into reality if you aren't."
Picking the garment up off the bed, Eliza turned to Melissa. "I wore this exact same dress, panties and boots in one of my dreams. In fact, I recognize most of it from my dreams so either you're lying about not being there or you're a damn good guesser and I'm leaning to the former. I want the truth, Doctor Hughes, what did you do to me?"
"Absolutely nothing. Well, aside from rooting around your memories every other day for three months. Come on, Eliza, you're not a stupid woman so put two and two together."
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Eliza bowed her head and thought about everything that had happened to her since entering the hospital to have her appendix removed. After some time she looked up. "You knew about the clothes because they, or at least this," she said holding the dress up again "is what I wore in the first dream and the rest followed. You didn't have to be there, you just had to wait until the next time you popped into my head to learn all the humiliating details. What I don't get is why lie about not knowing?"
"Because I wanted you to tell me in your own words. Look, I can see you're obviously conflicted by what happened in your dreams and if you want to stop talking about it and never mention it again I'll completely understand, but you need to know there is nothing to be embarrassed about. From what I saw we really got along and though I didn't experience it personally, from what I saw in the memories it did look like some pretty amazing sex. The way I see it we have two choices. We can never speak of it again, or we can go take a shower together and turn those dreams into reality."
"Y-You mean have sex with each other?"
"That's exactly what I mean, Eliza. I see the way you keep looking at me. I've been in your head and know every intimate detail of your life which tells me you're going to resist for approximately three-point-nine seconds," Melissa said as she approached the bed. Taking Eliza by the hand she helped the trembling young woman to her feet, gently caressed her cheek and then kissed her. As expected she was met with resistance that quickly faded and the two were embracing like long lost lovers.
