Chapter 1

'Miss James, what on earth are you doing in my bedchamber?!' Christian sat up in his bed, disturbed from his rest by Amy's lone presence in his room. He could not help but notice that she was wearing a nightshirt, with her exposed dainty feet poking out from beneath her clothing.

'I am sorry, My Lord, but I just couldn't sleep. I had to talk to you,' she pleaded.

'You're telling me that whatever you have to say couldn't wait till tomorrow? Don't you see that it is most inappropriate for a young single lady to seek a gentleman out like this?' Christian scolded, but knew from looking at the determined look on his visitor's face that his words would all be in vain.

'No, it couldn't. I wouldn't usually result to such drastic measures, but I had to take the risk. Tomorrow, there may be no chances to speak with you, to try and convince you. I would be chaperoned throughout,' Amy rambled on in her frustration.

'Lady, you are not making any sense. What do you mean to convince me of?!'

'Is it true what Papa says?' Amy left his question unanswered, as she sat down next to him on the bed, taking Christian again by surprise.

Christian tried to hold his composure and ignore the fact that he had a very beautiful woman sitting so casually and willingly beside him, a woman with eyes of a magnificent shade of blue and lips that appeared soft, plump and ripe for the taking.
