Chapter 1

Victor tirelessly battled the four fighting men who wrestled him to the dusty ground. He knew they would have all liked to take a sword to him so that he would give up his fight, rather than be burdened by his relentless attempts to escape them. Maybe a quick death would have been preferable for him also; he could no longer stand to see his small army of men - and the people in the village - treated so cruelly. Their spirit and morale were at an all-time low. They had been tortured and had suffered too much already. His capture would spell even worse things to come. He did not know if he had the heart to see them, but he would get off lightly were he to die now!

He knew realistically that his death would not be so quick. His older brother Gareth would not make it that easy for him.

Victor could hear him get off from his horse and walk slowly up to him.

'Let him go, but keep your swords raised just in case he tries anything ... although I don't think he would be that stupid. We have his men and his good, quiet people surrounded and captured. So any sudden moves, Victor, and I will kill them all. Do you hear? I will kill every last one of them, so don't make me.' His brother spoke loudly so everyone around could hear clearly how far he was willing to go.
