Chapter 1

'Why did Cynthia have to be such a bitch?!'

I was simply furious as I put down my mobile phone on the table beside me. All my initial hopes and dreams had been shattered, all because Cynthia had failed to pass me on an important letter which set out the details for an interview to a job that I had been crossing my fingers for, for what seemed like a very long time.

And I would not even have known of her mischief making if I had not called the company up to enquire if I had made the interview line up. I had by then already half expected the worst thinking that the company's silence in getting back to me was a sign of rejection. To be only pleasantly surprised to find that they had been impressed with my resume and covering letter and had gone on to accept me into their first assessment round, as the letter they sent to me weeks ago had outlined.

Weeks ago! Can you believe it?!

I dated it to the time that I had travelled back home from Boston where I now lived to visit my folks in the small town where I grew up in, leaving Cynthia my roommate and supposedly best friend to look after things at out apartment and most importantly to inform me if I got any post. But could she do that simple task, apparently not!

Cynthia had never mentioned receiving any of my letters to me even when I asked her several times once I got back to our apartment from my short trip to my hometown. It was only now on pressing her to remember that she revealed that she may just have left my confirmation interview letter inside her bedside draw by mistake. And surprise, surprise as if by magic as a rumbled through her things frantically there it was just like she told me it might be.
