Sadoville: an isolated continental metropolis, sometime in a 1950's era that never was, where the rules of society are very different?

Danielle Gironde, an innocent young woman from the provinces, has come to Sadoville to search for Beatrice, her missing older sibling. But the great city is not what Danielle was expecting. Here if women break the law they may be compelled to clean streets naked or be wired up and exposed in the middle of the street to serve as living traffic signals. And all women, rich or poor, between 18 and 40 are subject to the domination of the Defilement Lottery.

Every hour of the day and night a draw is made. If a woman's number comes up and she is challenged by a licensed lottery inquisitor within that hour, then, whatever her station in life, she can be freely (and roughly) used both physically and sexually and nobody has the right to prevent it. Every woman is a potential target and the humblest citizen has a chance of defiling the finest lady, if he can catch her.

Danielle, desperate to support herself, finds work in the respectable Berthold residence as a Chattel Class serving maid, meaning that she works there naked and hobbled, and whose occupants, both male and female, she has to serve intimately. As she goes about her duties she experiences Sadoville life at its most shocking and carnal.

She is a waitress at a refined garden party where she sees naked lottery women put on show to be played with and then ravished; gets taken out into the city dressed in transparent plastic to serve as a "shopping mule" to carry purchases for her mistress; sees a rich women whose lottery number has come up being stripped and tormented by her female friends ??" proving as the Sadoville saying goes that there are no friends where the lottery is concerned; gets paraded in public dressed in a black rubber fetish costume with wheels on her hands, serves as a "Maid of Dishonour" at a wedding party where the new bride is claimed as a lottery prize, visits a Flagellation Parlour and a Chastisement shop, and undergoes 24 hours of naked lottery bondage on public display getting a chill inside and out while advertising Zenith Refrigeration products.

All this Danielle must endure while searching for Beatrice. But as she does so she finds herself responding to the relentless sexual humiliations of Sadoville life in a most unexpected way.
