STORY DESCRIPTION

When Beatrice, a young and inexperienced 'girl Friday' in a porn studio, is suddenly catapulted into a starring role in a new and ambitious production, how can she gain the necessary skills quickly? The director wants realism, and his most experienced actress volunteers to act as her mentor, helping her to 'live her part' for as long as the new series lasts. As she is playing a sex-slave, 'mentor' really means 'mistress', and as the series turns out to be a great success, the commitment is open-ended and, it turns out, transferable. She takes on other commitments, and while making a documentary about the home of a fabulously rich middle-eastern 'Wasir', she lives as one of his harem of pleasure-girls. Although they enjoy lives of opulent luxury, they are kept in chains at the disposal of their master, his wives and his friends and business associates, whipped for any real or imagined shortcomings in their performances. There are others in the strange establishment who are not there for pleasure, but for punishment. Beatrice herself is permanently marked, ostensibly for identification purposes only, but she can only wonder whether her immersion in her new role has been so deep and rapid that she will never fully emerge from it.

Feeling that she is already a slave to her mentor and the Wasir, she returns to the studio to find that in future she'll be on the set twenty four hours a day, every day, so that subscribers to the studio's exclusive porn channel will be able to watch her live her life as the pleasure-toy of an African chief and slave trader. In permanent restraints, always naked and forbidden to speak, the line between fiction and reality becomes so blurred that it almost disappears. With another woman whose career is following a similar path, she lives to provide sexual services to tribesmen and women, never able to distinguish between the real and the simulated Africans. After months spent naked in chains her role seems to be reaching a natural conclusion, but will she recover her freedom then? Is that what she wants? Unknown to her, the plot is adapting to provide her with another, quite different part.
